“When things get urgent, customers know they can come to us”

At its core, Malmö Logistic Center is all about service. Fast, personal and solution-oriented, often at very short notice. We spoke with Attila Morvai, Terminal Manager at MLC, about what makes MLC the obvious choice for so many customers.

Attila Morvai, whose responsibility is keeping the whole operation moving, is often the first person that customers speak to when they call or send an email.

– A big part is customer satisfaction. The truck drivers are just as important as the transport managers. Invoicing, turnover, budgets, follow-ups and claims are also part of the daily tasks.

MLC can help customers at very short notice. How short is short?

– Someone might call and say: ‘I’m just around the corner and I need to unload and rearrange the goods.’ And they always receive the same answer: “You are welcome!”

Some customers are handled with more planning. But a large part of the work is spontaneous.

– That is where we have found our niche. When things get difficult or urgent, customers know they are always welcome to MLC.

Can you give an example?

– One customer came in because the goods were loaded in the wrong order. One part of the shipment was not on a pallet, so we could not move it in the normal way. We could have said that it was not possible. Instead, we found another solution: unload what we could, let him go and deliver part of the load, then come back to us so we could rearrange the rest.

For Attila, that attitude is central to MLC.

– We always put in the extra effort to make it right, fast, and safe!

What makes MLC different

At MLC, our services include reloading, warehousing, customs and trailer parking. But the personal touch makes MLC stand out. Both for employees and for drivers.

– A lot of the truck drivers are returning customers, and you build a relationship with them. We always hear the same story: it can be stressful at other terminals where they have specific slot times they have to abide by, loading and unloading takes forever and messes up their whole day.

He believes that MLC’s size is a strength. Our high Google rating backs it up.

– There are only three of us here, and that makes it personal. At a large terminal, you may never meet the same person twice. Here, you know who you are dealing with. That is our strength, but it also means we have to be really good at what we do.

And what is MLC especially good at?

– Above all, transshipment. But transshipment can mean many things. It can be goods loaded in the wrong order, cargo that is too heavy at the front or back, goods that need to be doubled up, stacked differently or stored temporarily. Sometimes a driver needs to unload here, make a delivery, and then come back so we can help rearrange the rest.

In a perfect world, Attila says, MLC’s problem-solving would not be needed as often.

– But transport does not always work that way. Sites can be closed, goods are loaded incorrectly, drivers have time slots to keep and things change quickly. That is when we can make a real difference.

What are you most proud of?

– My colleagues. I would not trade them for anything. They are the best at what they do.

He describes the team as close, experienced and built on trust. A recipe for a rewarding work environment and happy customers.

– There is 100 percent trust between us. No one needs to check someone else’s work afterwards. Because of that, the job is done properly. If you enjoy your work, you do a better job. We have freedom and flexibility, and we help each other. That is rare.
